Proverbs 18:21 - Death and life [are] in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.
James 3:8 - But the tongue can no man tame; [it is] an unruly evil, full of deadly poison.
Proverbs 13:3 - He that keepeth his mouth keepeth his life: [but] he that openeth wide his lips shall have destruction.
These are just a few verses about our words having power. We can either speak life or we can choose to speak death.
We can not tame our own tongue by ourselves. But something that helps is surrounding yourself with things that glorify God. What goes in does come out! You put evil and perversion in and out will come evil and perversion! We should be putting the Word of God into our minds, instead.
When we speak life and good things we will surely see a difference. When we speak evil we are making evil legal in our lives. We are giving the devil permission to do what ever we say. But when we speak good then we are giving God permission to work within us for His glory and purpose.
We need to stop using phrases such as “that just killed me” or “I’m dead“. Teen slang is the worst to be honest with you. And I’m a teenager too! Even saying “ouch” when we get a scrape or stub out toe is giving your body permission to hurt.
It’s crazy how many bad things we give life to each and every day.
So let’s all make ourselves and God a promise that we will give our tongues to Him and practice letting His Word flow from our mouths.
